According to my stats, I get lots of readers coming to my blog by googling that question, so I figured I’d help you guys out by breaking it down and making it real simple.
It’s straight math.
I’m a 4-star writer on Textbroker, so at their current rates I will earn $7 for a 500 word article from the Open Orders pool. So, if you aren’t getting any direct orders or aren’t on any high paying teams, then you’re going to have to do it by grabbing Open Orders too.
At $7 each, you’d have to write 143 articles to hit your goal of $1,000.
If you’re only writing articles on weekdays, then you’ll need to write 7 Open Orders per day…more if they’re less than 500 words each.
So how long does it take you to browse the pool, select another assignment, research it, and then write that 500 word article? If you can do it in an hour or less — consistently, day after day — then you can reach your $1k goal, if you stay on track and work 8 hours per day, 5 days per week.
But if you’re like some people (okay…me), then you’ll waste a lot of time going through the order pool, rejecting assignment after assignment, and you’ll be lucky to complete more than one or two articles per day…
- “Nah, I don’t like that one…”
- “I know nothing about that…”
- “This guy sounds like a jerk…”
- “I don’t even understand the directions…”
- “They don’t pay me enough to do all that…”
Besides that, let’s face it…many of your assignments will be under 500 words too, so the real figure may be more like 180 articles per month. That translates to 9 articles per day, Monday through Friday! It’s certainly possible to do that, but it’ll be a lot easier if you can get some higher paying assignments too, and that’s where Team Orders and Direct Orders come in.
Team Orders & Direct Orders
I do pick up some Team Orders every now and then that pay slightly more than the regular rate…slightly.
I also had somebody who loved the articles I’d done for her previously and offered me a steady gig of three Direct Orders per week ($40-$50/wk total), so I jumped on that, of course.
After the first two weeks, I never heard from her again.
But if you can build up a steady stream of Team and Direct Orders, you can probably hit your goal with only 100 articles per month — 5 per day instead of 7. And if you can get on some really high paying Teams or have a high DO rate, then you could possibly hit goal with 80 assignments or less (4 per day).
But most likely, you’ll be doing Open Orders most of the time and hopefully snatching some TOs and DOs here and there. The key to getting those higher paying assignments is to do really good work on the OOs, and to do LOTS of them.
I’ve already written about that in other posts and on HubPages, so I’ll give you some links down below for further reading. The “Textbroker Tips” article I did on HubPages is probably the best resource on the whole frickin’ Internet on how to improve your results on Textbroker, so check it out. I put a lot of time into researching that one…all just for you
So yeah, $1,000 per month is possible to achieve on Textbroker, but if you aren’t already a disciplined writer, it’s going to take some time to build up to that level of productivity, and it’s also going to take some time to pick up some TO and DO clients.
